#PillowTalk: How and Why We Started

#PillowTalk is a freestyle column that occurs at the end of each month for the WiB blog, where we can respond to any comments for the blogs or our personal key takeaways for the month.

This is it! The wrap-up to the first month of Women in Business at HKUST. We might be fresh to the blogosphere, but all blogs have to start somewhere. And we are more than thrilled to kickstart what, hopefully, will be a series of inspiring posts and build a strong community!

If you have been following with all the blog posts, throughout each month, we would explore various topics from How-To-Guides to interviews with women in business. And at the end of each month, we will wind down with “Pillow Talk”, which is exactly this article! For “Pillow Talk”, based on your responses for the blogs, we will share our thoughts and insights just like the intimate conversations you would have with your close friends late at night. So, feel free to leave any thoughts and comments you have!

So, before we get too ahead of ourselves, today we can share about who exactly we are, what do we do and how did this started?

The story begins, of course, in the Hong Kong University of Sunshine and Tomorrow! HKUST definitely gave us a lot of opportunities to grow and challenges to overcome. It is not an overstatement to say without all these years spent in university, we wouldn’t have been where we are today! However, it isn’t of course, all Sunshine and Tomorrow, there are definitely Stress and Tension.

And in those moments, it is especially difficult for us to find a community to share the joys and the disappointments, the achievements and the hiccups, as we explore the unknown future. And perhaps sometimes, when life gives you lemons, we want to be able to know that it’s not just you alone facing it and there are indeed support around us ready to be there - a community that will be there for each other through the good and the bad, empowering you to explore the adventures you wish to embark.

Well, you are not alone! And this is exactly the story of how Women in Business started, 15 like-minded girls with the same vision – to empower women to become leaders of business, to introduce young, aspiring executives to leading professionals in a variety of industries, and to close the gender gap in leadership.

As for why we started these blogs, that’s because we want to brighten up your day, and hopefully, some new insights and perspectives that you could take away. (We all know how the Eureka moment often comes from instances you least expect, and in this case, these blogs!)

We hope after reading this blog, you are just as excited as we are to embark on this new journey.
